21 Aug – ASIC’s media release, dated August 21, 2025, highlights new data that reinforces its strategic focus on consumer and retail investor protection. The report indicates a significant rise in complaints from retail investors, with over 11,000 issues reported in the first half of 2025, primarily related to credit, financial advice, and misleading conduct. This data is used by ASIC to inform its surveillance, investigations, and enforcement priorities, with the ultimate goal of driving compliance and protecting consumers. National Anti-Scam Centre Urges Vigilance as Losses Rise

25 Aug – In a media release for Scams Awareness Week (August 25-29, 2025), the ACCC’s National Anti-Scam Centre reported that while the number of scam reports to Scamwatch had decreased, the total financial losses increased by 26% to approximately $175 million in the first half of 2025. The Centre’s Deputy Chair, Catriona Lowe, noted a rise in sophisticated scams through online platforms and social media. The campaign urges the public and businesses to be more vigilant by following the “Stop. Check. Protect.” advice.
