OAIC stats show record year for data breaches

The OAIC has urged Australian businesses to review their cybersecurity, data protection, and incident response plans off the back of a surge in data breaches to a record 1,113 in 2024. The surge of data breaches is primarily due to malicious cyberattacks, prompting the Privacy Commissioner to stress the urgent need for stronger security and faster breach notifications. Read more here.
